ABOUT THE CLUB
We are a group of expatriate women mostly based in Paris and aged between 26 and about 60 (though most are in their 30s which is why we’ve had lots of new babies lately).
Our investment focus varies. Members are interested in:
- Learning how to better manage money
- Savings products (especially with a high interest rate and low tax)
- Understanding their insurance/pension products better
- Investing in Property (whether for a home, holiday home or buy-to-let)
- Setting up a small business
- Investing in stocks (either directly or via funds)
- Making currency transfers cost effectively
- Investing in other countries (whether our home countries or emerging markets)
- Alternative investments such as art, gold, antiques
- Creating investment portfolios
- Negotiating a higher salary
- Speaking with our children or partners about money
- Learning how to deal more effectively with stockbrokers and other finance professionals
- Making sense of financial jargon
There is a broad mix in terms of financial knowledge among our members. Some have been investing for years, others are total beginners.
The purpose of the group is to share information, offer support for investment projects and also act as a sounding board for any new investment ideas.
We believe this forces people to justify why they want to make a certain investment and to judge whether it makes financial sense or is more emotionally motivated.
We do not pool our money to invest together as this has proved to be impractical for such a diverse and constantly changing group.
Our main themes are education and encouragement. To this end we sometimes invite outside investors (even men!) to come and speak at our meetings.
A practical guide, "Detox Your Finances" is the ultimate accessory for the modern gal.
